B1 This is one of the imprecatory Psalms.

B2 While there are various opinions regarding these (see here), they are inspired by God.

B3 In my opinion, they are the feelings of the Psalmist. The person/s spoken about have crossed God’s do-not-cross line, choices have consequences, and sin must be punished.

B4 Also, some are Messianic either directly or have Messianic overtones.

B5 Discuss possible reasons for these Psalms, why they are in the Scriptures, and how could a omnibenevolent God allow such things to happen.

B6 We suffer like our Master. Consider this from the Letter to Diognetus : They [Christians] love all men, and by all men are persecuted.  ¹²They are unknown, and still they are condemned; they are put to death, and yet they are brought to life.  ¹³They are poor, and yet they make many rich; they are completely destitute, and yet they enjoy complete abundance.  ¹⁴They are dishonored, and in their very dishonor are glorified; they are defamed, and are vindicated.  ¹⁵They are reviled, and yet they bless; when they are affronted, they still pay due respect.  ¹⁶When they do good, they are punished as evildoers; undergoing punishment, they rejoice because they are brought to life.  ¹⁷They are treated by the Jews as foreigners and enemies, and are hunted down by the Greeks; and all the time those who hate them find it impossible to justify their enmity.

"For it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it'; and, 'Let another take his office.'

B5 Was Judas like a lot of phony religious leaders? Matthew 10:2-8 NKJV - Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. "But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

B6 How do leaders like this get into positions of authority and power?

B1 In this passage, this evil person/s show a life opposite of what a believer should be. Does this give a believer today guidance of how we should live?

B3 Instead of grieving for the sins of society, they cover it up. We should grieve: Ezekiel 9:3-6 NLT - Then the glory of the God of Israel rose up from between the cherubim, where it had rested, and moved to the entrance of the Temple. And the LORD called to the man dressed in linen who was carrying the writer's case. He said to him, "Walk through the streets of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of all who weep and sigh because of the detestable sins being committed in their city." Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all--old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders.

B4 What is the meaning of the phrase: He wore cursing as his garment? Note that this cursing could be in thoughts, words, desires, and/or deeds.

D3 Let’s say that when I was 10 years old, I was throwing rocks. Not paying attention, I hit my dad in the forehead. He has an injury that requires suturing. Someone has to pay. After confessing and acknowledging that I did it, I was stupid, and I was not paying attention, he can do a number of things. He can say, “Ok, I know you learned your lesson,” thus, showing mercy, but he pays the doctor’s bills. He might say though, “I forgive you, but you must do extra chores to pay for the doctor’s bills.” In the latter, I pay. Regarding sin, either I pay (hell) or God pays:

Purpose For Living

There has been an increase in suicides. Life seems hopeless for many. I thought I would write an article on why we exist, and what is our purpose.

Introduction

Consider this insight from Ben Shapiro:

In other words, people need meaning and purpose in life. Our focus on materialism from both the political right and left — on income inequality and intersectional victimhood from the left, and on tribal affinity and economic deregulation from the right — ignores the key problem: Americans, particularly young Americans, increasingly don’t feel that their lives have purpose. This isn’t a problem that can be cured by redistributing Xboxes. This is a problem of the soul. (Source).

He writes about the skyrocketing levels of suicide in the USA:

According to the Centers for Disease Control, youth suicide is in the midst of a precipitous and frightening rise. Between 2006 and 2016, suicides by white children between ages 10 and 17 skyrocketed 70%; while black children are less likely than white children to kill themselves, their suicide rate also jumped 77%. And as The Blaze points out, CNN reported last year that “the suicide rate among girls between the ages of 15 and 19 rose to a 40-year high in 2015.”

It’s not just young people. According to Tom Simon, a CDC report author, “We know that overall in the US, we’re seeing increases in suicide rates across all age groups.” As of 2016, suicide levels were at 30-year highs.

What Is Our Purpose in Life?

B3 To glorify God

C1 By our thoughts, desires, words, and deeds reflecting the image of God. He is holy, loving, just, etc., so also He wants us to be this.

C2 Ephesians 4:22-24 CSB - to take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires, to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, the one created according to God's likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth. Some examples are found in Ephesians 4:25-32.

C3 Romans 1:21 CSB - For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened. This passage teaches that there is a common failure.

C2 Ephesians 2:10 CSB - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

C3 Easton’s gives the following three points:

1. Works are "good" only when,
   1. they spring from the principle of love to God. The moral character of an act is determined by the moral principle that prompts it. Faith and love in the heart are the essential elements of all true obedience. Hence good works only spring from a believing heart, can only be wrought by one reconciled to God (Ephesians 2:10; James 2:18:22).
   2. Good works have the glory of God as their object; and
   3. they have the revealed will of God as their only rule (Deuteronomy 12:32; Revelation 22:18,19).
2. Good works are an expression of gratitude in the believer's heart (John 14:15,23; Galatians 5:6). They are the fruits of the Spirit (Titus 2:10-12), and thus spring from grace, which they illustrate and strengthen in the heart.
3. Good works of the most sincere believers are all imperfect, yet like their persons they are accepted through the mediation of Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:17), and so are rewarded; they have no merit intrinsically, but are rewarded wholly of grace.

What Happened to Our Purpose?

But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

F2 Lust starts with the heart, so does covetousness and every other sin.

G1 1 John 2:16 NKJV - For all that [is] in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.

G2 James 1:13-15 NKJV - Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

E1 Romans 5:10 NIV - For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

E2 2 Corinthians 5:20 NIV - We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

B1 Are You a Good Person?

B2 Everyone has sinned, broken God’s laws: Romans 3:23 NKJV - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

B3 God’s punishment for sin is death and suffering in hell forever.

C1 Death: Romans 6:23 NKJV - For the wages of sin [is] death, but the gift of God [is] eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

C2 Forever: Revelation 20:12-15 KJV - And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

B4 The sinner must be punished: Isaiah 13:11 NKJV - I will punish the world for [its] evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

B5 The Lord Jesus died. He bore the punishment for sins: 1 Peter 2:24 NKJV - who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.

B6 We need to repent and believe in Jesus Christ

C1 Repent: Mark 1:15 NKJV - and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.

C2 Believe: John 6:47 (Pickering) Most assuredly I say to you: the one believing into me has eternal life.

B7 Now we live to do His will:

C1 Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV - Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

C2 Matthew 5:16 NIV - In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
