Why Are People So Angry?

A post by Ray Comfort

Facebook entry 12 February 15

“Ray in your own opinion, why are people so angry?” Matty Branagh

The above question was asked in reference to the thousands of abusive comments on this and other Christian sites (most of which don’t get by our moderators).

The Internet, Hollywood, TV, magazines, etc., have flooded this world with sexual perversion, violence, blasphemy, fornication, homosexuality, adultery, and a godless worldview. As each nation gives itself to what the Bible calls “gross” darkness, the more it hates the light. Or to put it another way, the greater the criminal, the more he despises the rule of law.

As Christians, we stand for the rule of Law among those whom the Bible says are desperately wicked criminals, of which we were once a part. We are the ultimate “wet blanket” for sin loving sinners. Every time we speak the truth, it is like light exposing darkness. We remind them the God requires an account, and such produces what we often call “conviction” (an unpleasant sense of guilt).

Take for example a man who argues with his wife and suddenly realizes that she is right. He is in the wrong. He has two avenues of action. He can either humble himself and apologize, or he can keep his pride by becoming angry, slamming the door and leaving.

So it is when proud sinners begin to see that we are speaking the truth, they have two avenues. They can either humble themselves before the God they have offended, or they can become angry and abuse those who represent Him.

Two Worldviews

  1. Flesh/Word
  2. Spirit

Basic Verses

Romans 8:1-10 WEL There is now not any condemnation to those in Christ Jesus, [those] who don't walk after the flesh but after the spirit. [97.7% contain the whole verse]
2 For the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus freed me from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law couldn't do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh because of sin, condemned sin in the flesh,
4 So that the righteousness of the law could be fulfilled in us who don't walk after the flesh but after the spirit.
5 Those following the flesh are interested in the things of the flesh, but those following the spirit [are interested in] the things of the spirit.
6 To have a carnal mindset [is] death, but to have a spiritual mindset [is] life and peace,
7 Because the carnal mind [is] hostile to God, because it does not submit to God's law, nor indeed can it.
8 So then those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the spirit, if it is so that God's Spirit lives in you, and if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.
10 And if Christ [lives] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin, but the spirit [has] life because of righteousness.

Flesh versus Spirit

B1 Some general thoughts
C1 Flesh usually refers to physical flesh as muscles, bones, skin, etc. 1 Corinthians 15:39 NKJV All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds.
C2 Sometimes it refers to heritage.
D1 All humans: Romans 3:20 NKJV Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
D2 Israelites: Romans 9:3 NKJV For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh.
C3 Occasionally it refers to worldview.
D1 Romans 7:5 NKJV For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.
D2 Galatians 5 is the main chapter for this. Galatians 5:16-26 WEL I say, "Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh."
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, and these are contrary to one another, so that you cannot do the things that you want to.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious. They are adultery, sexual sin, moral corruption, unrestrained lust,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, provoking jealousy, hot anger, pushing to be first, selfish scheming, dissensions, heresy,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, wild partying, and so on, about which I have told you before, and as I have also told you in the past that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
24 Those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be longing for empty praise, irritating one another, and envying one another.
D3 This passage teaches
      • The flesh worldview is opposite the spirit worldview.
      • They desire to overcome, overpower the other.
      • The flesh is under the law. The spirit is not (it is under grace).
      • The actions of the flesh worldview in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds are
        • Adultery
        • Sexual sin
        • Moral corruption
        • Unrestrained lust,
        • Idolatry
        • Witchcraft
        • Hatred
        • Strife
        • Provoking jealousy
        • Hot anger
        • Pushing to be first
        • Selfish scheming
        • Dissensions
        • Heresy,
        • Envyings
        • Murders
        • Drunkenness
        • Wild partying
      • Those living the flesh worldview do not go to heaven.
      • The fruit of the Spirit worldview are
        • Love
        • Joy
        • Peace
        • Longsuffering
        • Gentleness
        • Goodness
        • Faith,
        • Meekness
        • Self-control
      • There are no laws against this fruit.
      • Those who live the spirit worldview have killed the flesh worldview.
      • Those who live the spirit worldview do not desire
        • Empty praise
        • Irritating one another
        • Envying one another.
B2 Some concluding thoughts
C1 The natural state of every human is depraved. It is both in an active and passive sense.
D1 In the active sense, it is everyone is addicted to sin, just as surely as those addicted to anything. John 8:34 CSB Jesus responded, "Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.
D2 In the passive sense, it is everyone does not and can not seek God. Romans 3:11 CSB There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.
C2 God seeks us. If God did not seek us, we would be lost to God’s judgment and eternal, conscious punishment.
D1 Luke 19:10 CSB "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost."
D2 Matthew 25:46 NKJV "And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
C3 To those who believe the Gospel and place their faith into Jesus as the only Savior will have everlasting life. John 3:36 NKJV "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
C4 We are now dead in Christ. The old nature and self are dead. There is now a new creation and new heart. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
C5 The new creation and new heart seeks to glorify God and do His will through God’s grace. Matthew 5:16 NKJV "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
C6 By God’s grace we can live for Him every day.
D1 Hebrews 13:9 NLT So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God's grace, not from rules about food, which don't help those who follow them.
D2 1 Peter 5:12 NLT I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God's grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.

Ephesians 5:1-5

A1 Scripture
B1 Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children, and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a fragrant aroma. But, you should not even talk about fornication or any form of moral corruption or insatiableness (as is fitting for saints); nor any obscenity, nor foolish talk or coarse joking (that do not belong), but rather thanksgiving. Because you can know this for sure: no fornicator, nor anyone who is morally corrupt or insatiable (actually an idolater), has any inheritance in the Kingdom of the Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of the disobedience. Therefore do not be participants with them—even though you were once darkness, you are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light  (Ephesians 5:1-8, WPNT)
B2 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints. Coarse and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks. For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of the Messiah and of God.  (Ephesians 5:1-5, HCSB)
A2 Outline
B1 A command—be imitators of God
B2 A respect—as dearly beloved children
B3 Walk in love
C1 As Messiah did
C2 As Messiah died
D1 A sacrifice to God
D2 An offering to God
B4 Avoid
C1 Sexual immorality
C2 Impurity
C3 Greed
C4 Irreligious talk
C5 Crude jokes
B5 Do
C1 Give thanks
C2 Know and recognize
D1 Sexually immoral, impure, or greedy (an idolater)
D2 Has no inheritance in the Kingdom of Messiah and of God
A3 Notes
B1 Imitators
C1 Not of God doing miracles, like the present days Pentecostal, word of faith, or heretics.
C2 Not willing something into existence, or any of those things that only God can do.
C3 It is referring to have the same desires, goals, attitudes as God does, and the way God deals with people, etc. This is best seen in the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
C4 Is of living a certain kind of life. This is seen in the context here of Jesus' example. Ephesians 4:32 HCSB And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ. We don't compare ourselves to other Christians. We are to compare ourselves to God.
C5 Imitators
D1 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.  (1 Corinthians 4:16, NKJV)
D2 Imitate me, just as I also [imitate] Christ.  (1 Corinthians 11:1, NKJV)
D3 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message with joy from the Holy Spirit.  (1 Thessalonians 1:6, HCSB)
D4 For you, brothers, became imitators of God's churches in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, since you have also suffered the same things from people of your own country, just as they did from the Jews  (1 Thessalonians 2:14, HCSB)
D5 So that you won't become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.  (Hebrews 6:12, HCSB)
D6 In holiness: Leviticus 11:44-45 NRSV For I am the LORD your God; sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming creature that moves on the earth.  45 For I am the LORD who brought you up from the land of Egypt, to be your God; you shall be holy, for I am holy.
D7 The Lord Jesus is our perfect example: Colossians 3:9-10 NKJV  Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,  10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
D8 Plus, a warning NOT to imitate the wicked: 2 Peter 3:17 NKJV  You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked.
C6 Temptation for the Ephesians would still be great. They had been living and practicing life in a very evil culture. To avoid and help overcome temptation, they were encouraged to not even talk about the sinful practices of the culture they lived in. So Wilbur Pickering translates verse 3: "But, you should not even talk about fornication or any form of moral corruption or insatiableness (as is fitting for saints)."  (Ephesians 5:3, WPNT).
B2 Beloved children—God loves us, so we are beloved children. Because God loves us, we want to imitate Him.
B3 Walk in love. Walk has the idea of living our life, our lifestyle, our thoughts, desires, words, and deeds. All this must be done in love. Truth is essential, and telling the truth is for the good of someone’s soul. It is the soul that we are concerned for. John 3:19-22 WEL This is [the reason for] the judgment, because light is come into the world and people loved darkness rather than light, because their actions were evil. 20 "Everyone who does evil hates the light and doesn’t come to the light, so that his actions may be discovered and reproved [discovered and reproved is one word in Greek]. 21 "But the one who does the truth comes to the light, so that his actions may be plainly seen that they are done for God.
B4 The love of God and His giving of Himself, for love is a choice. We understand this because:
C1 God did not have to do this.
C2 He choose to do this.
C3 He wanted to do this.
C4 Thoughts and desires are not enough. He demonstrated His love.
C5 A sacrifice was needed to atone.
D1 Good works are meaningless, because even one breaking of God's Law sends to hell. No matter how much we do the rest of our lives, it cannot make up for the evil we have done.
D2 Jesus never sinned.
D3 An everlasting death was required.
D4 This death is an separation from God.
D5 Jesus died and was forsaken by the Father.
D6 This was the full payment needed.
D7 The condition now, is to repent and trust into Jesus.
C6 The offering was a sin offering.
D1 "...just like the Son of the Man—He did not come to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”  (Matthew 20:28, WPNT)
D2 "By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."  (Hebrews 10:10, WPNT)
D3 Dr Chafer writes: Substitution
Substitution is not a Biblical term (cf. Trinity, incarnation, etc.), but a Biblical doctrine nonetheless.
1. Old Testament Type.
a. In general, every animal sacrifice offered during Old Testament times substituted for the offender. All this was accordingly a type of Christ dying in the room and stead of the sinner.
b. The sweet savor and non-sweet savor offerings of Leviticus, chapters 1–5, indicate that two accomplishments are to be noticed in Christ's substitution:
(1) The non-sweet savor oblations were, first, the sin offering and, second, the trespass offering. In these the perfection of the offering itself had to be insisted upon since Christ the Antitype is perfect in Himself, but of course, at the same time, the offering is invested with the sin of the offerer. They are called non-sweet savor offerings since God cannot look upon sin with allowance whatsoever. In fulfilling this type of sacrifice Christ cried, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matt. 27:46).
(2) Sweet savor offerings were three in number: first, the burnt offering, second, the meal offering, and third, the peace offering. In these were depicted an aspect of Christ's death which was a delight to His Father, as it has been suggested in Hebrews 9:14: He “offered himself without spot to God.” Here is substitution in the sense that God requires of the believer, not merely that he should have no sins (as typified by the non-sweet savor offerings), but that he indeed should have done all good. These three offerings, consequently, suggest how the perfection of Christ may be accepted of God for a Christian. They are sweet to God since only Christ's perfections are in view, and manifestly as such they could apply to the elect alone.
2. New Testament Doctrine.  Again the same twofold conception obtains. The Scriptures state the doctrine fully.
a. Sweet savor (Phil. 2:8; Hebrews 9:11–14; 10:5–7).
b. Non-sweet savor (Romans 3:23–26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18; cf. Psalm 22:1; Matthew 27:46)."

B5 Fornication—any sexual activity not approved by God.
B6 Uncleanness—everything not addressed by fornication or covetousness. Finding pleasure in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds that God does not approve.
B7 Covetousness—wanting what someone else has. It can be the love of money, things, persons, or fame. It is wrong, ungodlike desire.
B8 Our speech
C1 Good speech is talk that edifies another. Bad speech is talk that destroys another. One teaches and encourages, the other abuses. Abusive speech is evil, but truth is good.
C2 Proverbs has a lot of passages teaching about this.
D1 Proverbs 12:23 GNB  Smart people keep quiet about what they know, but stupid people advertise their ignorance.
D2 Proverbs 15:2 CEV  Words of wisdom come from the wise, but fools speak foolishness.
D3 Ecclesiastes 10:12-14 NKJV The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up;  (13) The words of his mouth begin with foolishness, And the end of his talk is raving madness.  (14) A fool also multiplies words. No man knows what is to be; Who can tell him what will be after him?
D4 Proverbs 4:24 GNB  Never say anything that isn't true. Have nothing to do with lies and misleading words.
D5 Proverbs 10:32 GNB  Righteous people know the kind thing to say, but the wicked are always saying things that hurt.
B9 The inheritance
C1 Who is included or excluded?
C2 What is the inheritance?
C3 Why do we get this inheritance?
A4 Applications
B1 God has set the standard, the routine, for living a Christian life.
B2 God has defined what love is. He shows true love. We need to imitate that love.
B3 God has set the standards for sexual behavior. His rules are the only and the best.
B4 God has set the standard for our speech. Let us be careful.
B5 Greed is not to be found in God’s people.
B6 Humans don’t like God’s standard, so we and they attempt to redefine, minimize, or dismiss in some way. Let us be aware.
B7 Giving thanks is very important. We should give thanks to God and also our fellow humans.

Saving Marriage

Saving Marriage

rescue

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24 NKJV)

Divorce Statistics in the USA (source)

  • Divorce Rate Statistics of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Marriages

  • Various studies on US rate of divorce show significant differences when a comparison is made in 1st, 2nd and 3rd marriage breakups in America. The marriage breakup rate in America for first marriage is 41% to 50%; the rate after second marriage is from 60% to 67% and the rate in America for 3rd marriage are from 73% to 74%. Reports also say that couples with children have a slightly lower rate of breakup as compared to couples without children. This is due to the fact that being childless is one of the prime causes behind divorce in America. Also, the children of divorced parents are prone to divorcing 4 times more than the children of couples who are not divorced.

  • Drop in Divorce rate:
Rates have been dropping during the last few decades. Data indicates that marriages have lasted longer in the 21st century as compared to the success rate of marriages in the 1990s. Also experts believe that the current rates trend might go down more in coming years as more and more couples prefer a live-in relationship. This is a type of relationship where couples live together like partners without marrying.

Much could be said about the importance of marriage, the Biblical view of marriage, why be married, etc. but I wanted to share one couple’s story. You may have read this already.

Richard Paul Evans and his wife were having problems:

For years my wife Keri and I struggled. Looking back, I’m not exactly sure what initially drew us together, but our personalities didn’t quite match up. And the longer we were married the more extreme the differences seemed. Encountering “fame and fortune” didn’t make our marriage any easier. In fact, it exacerbated our problems. The tension between us got so bad that going out on book tour became a relief, though it seems we always paid for it on re-entry. Our fighting became so constant that it was difficult to even imagine a peaceful relationship. We became perpetually defensive, building emotional fortresses around our hearts. We were on the edge of divorce and more than once we discussed it.

Finally he could not take it anymore:

I was on book tour when things came to a head. We had just had another big fight on the phone and Keri had hung up on me. I was alone and lonely, frustrated and angry. I had reached my limit. That’s when I turned to God.

What he did

You can’t change her, Rick. You can only change yourself. At that moment I began to pray. If I can’t change her, God, then change me. I prayed late into the night. I prayed the next day on the flight home. I prayed as I walked in the door to a cold wife who barely even acknowledged me. That night, as we lay in our bed, inches from each other yet miles apart, the inspiration came. I knew what I had to do.

The next morning I rolled over in bed next to Keri and asked, “How can I make your day better?”

Keri looked at me angrily. “What?”

“How can I make your day better?”

“You can’t,” she said. “Why are you asking that?”

“Because I mean it,” I said. “I just want to know what I can do to make your day better.”

She looked at me cynically. “You want to do something? Go clean the kitchen.”

How did it turn out?

I’m grateful that my family is still intact and that I still have my wife, my best friend, in bed next to me when I wake in the morning.

Definitely a good read. Read all of it.

Love is a choice. We can choose to really love our spouse.

Love in the Bible--consider

  • Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. (John 15:13 NKJV)

  • If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. (1 Corinthians 13:1-8 NRSV)

Essential Truths

Essential Truths

The truth is that anyone who claims to be a Christian, i.e., to be a follower of Jesus Christ, needs to follow His teachings! As obvious as that should be, and as much as it is professed, fewer and fewer Christians (a group that includes many who call themselves Bible-believing Christians) truly adhere to the necessity of going by the teachings and instructions of the Word of God. Although the Bible is wonderfully profound, its fundamental truths can be readily understood by every believer who is born of the Spirit of God. God, who is no respecter of persons, does not play favorites regarding one's intellect (Acts 10:34; 1 Corinthians 1:27). He makes very clear the revelation of Himself, His characteristics, His plan for His creation, His solution for the problem of sin, the reconciliation of the lost to Himself, and other essential issues.

Sunday School Lesson--When It All Comes Crashing Down

When It All Comes Crashing Down

sunday school

Theme: When life falls apart

Scripture: Job 1:1-2:3

A1 Outline

  • B1 The background--Job, his character, his family Job 1:1-1:5

  • B2 The accuser attacks Job--satan, job, Yahweh Job 1:6-12

  • B3 The first attack--Job loses family and all belongings Job 1:13-22

  • B4 The second attack--Job loses his health Job 2:1-10 (for our study specifically looking at Yahweh's response to satan about Job).

A2 Notes and Questions

  • B1 The background

    • C1 Uz--the general area is western Saudi Arabia. It is east of Israel.

    • C2 Job--husband, father, business, rancher, farmer, etc.

  • B2 What do the Scriptures say about Job's character?

    • C1 Blameless

      • D1 This is not sinless. Blameless would be one who strives follow God's laws. Blameless would be who asks forgiveness from God, ask for wisdom, strength, and success in doing God's will. See 2 Peter 3:14. For examples see Joshua 2:17 and Matthew 12:5.

    • C2 Upright--Being an upright person would be someone who strives to do things according to God's way of life. See Psalm 119:128

    • C3 Fears God--Fear as in afraid. Why fear? God is judge, and someday we have to give an account of ourselves (as Christians. Romans 14:12) or face the wrath of God (as non-Christian, Revelation 20:11-15)

    • C4 Shuns evil--evil is thinking and/or doing opposite of what God would do and act.

  • B3 What was Job's concern for his children?

  • B4 What is satan doing? (Job 1:6-7)

  • B5 What is God's question to satan? What is satan's answer? Why does satan answer this way?

  • B6 Was it God's decree and will for Job's children to be murdered and all possessions lost? (No) Why did God allow this?

  • B7 Job 1:16, was the witness correct when he stated, "The fire of God...?"

  • B8 Job 1:21-22, what was Job's response to his loss? How would we handle this?

  • B9 Job 1:21, did God give? Did God take away? Who did the taking away?

  • B10 Can satan kill? John 8:44

  • B11 Ever have a bad day? How do we respond?

  • B12 What are some of the most horrible things that happened in your life?

  • B13 How do we handle false witness, bullying, slander, libel, etc.?

  • B14 Do we only serve God because things are good, only to have our best life now, only to see our "seed" faith make us rich?

  • B15 Why is there evil and bad things in the world? Isn't God a god of love? Isn't He strong enough to prevent it?

    • C1 Considerations

      • D1 Challenges

        • E1 Epicurus:

          • F1 Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

          • F2 Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent?

          • F3 Is he both able and willing? Then whence comes evil?

          • F4 Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

        • E2 Atheist (one version)

          • F1 A good God would destroy evil.

          • F2 An all-powerful God could destroy evil.

          • F3 Evil is not destroyed.

          • F4 Therefore, there cannot possibly be such a good and powerful God.

      • D2 What is good?

      • D3 What is bad/evil?

        • E1 Absence of good? But pain helps medical personnel make a diagnosis.

        • E2 Frustration of human values (source)?

        • E3 Breaking God's law?

        • E4 Punishment for breaking the law?

    • C2 We've covered this before, but the basics are

      • D1 God created everything good. There was no evil on earth.

      • D2 Adam disobeyed God, that is, Adam sinned.

      • D3 God punishes sin and curses the world and everything in/on it. This is the evil we face today. It is because of sin. Adam sinned, and so do all of us.

  • B16 When our world falls apart, does that mean that God is against us? (Maybe, compare Job and King David (2 Samuel 12:1-13 Psalms 51.) Both had "evil" things happen. One was righteous; the other an adulterer and murderer).

  • B17 For the believer as Job, what is to be our response to evil?

  • B18 For the believer as King David, what is to be our response to evil?

  • B19 Why would God allow satan into heaven and accuse Job?

  • B20 Why would God allow satan to bring evil on Job?

  • B21 Is all evil caused by the devil?

  • B22 Who did Job think was his accuser? Was he correct? (He thought it was God, when it reality (truth) it was satan).

    • C1 Jesus was falsely accused, Matthew 27:12

    • C2 The Apostle Paul, Acts 24.

    • C3 The end of the accuser, Revelation 12:10.

  • B23 What do we learn about accusers? How do we handle, respond to, false accusers?

    • C1 Do not blame God, for this is what the false accuser wants.

    • C2 Do not lose your composure, for this will make the false accuser happy.

    • C3 Pray.

    • C4 Tell them, "Have a good day," then leave. Most, if not all, false accusers do not want to discuss or hear the truth.

    • C5 How did Jesus handle the false accusers in Matthew 27:12?

    • C6 What did Job do? Job 1:20-22.

  • B24 According to the lesson, satan often accuses someone of their motives? How do you feel about this?

  • B25 Have you ever lost it all? How did you respond? How are we to respond?

  • B26 How much power does satan have? Is there a limit to his power?

  • B27 What is the ultimate aim of the accuser (satan)?

  • B28 Why do people blame God for their problems?

  • B29 What and who causes the injustices we see and experience in the world?

  • B30 Has God ever experience injustice, suffering, and "evil?" (Jesus died. He was sinless and innocent).

  • B31 What attitudes and actions have you and I displayed in trials?

  • B32 How do we help each other in these evil things?

Atheism advances

Atheism advances

I had a discussion with an atheist once, and he concluded that the only purpose for life is to pass on our genes and try to make the world a better place.

I told him you have no hope but to be a pile of compost.

He finished by saying goodbye "from one pile of compost to another."

He was a nice guy, not like some who are snarly and condescending.

Al Serrato over at please convince me has an article concerning purpose from the atheist's viewpoint.

He starts the article:

There are asedno atheists in foxholes.” Or so the saying goes. Today, that probably has more to do with the scarcity of foxholes than it does with the scarcity of atheists. Indeed, the growing ranks of atheists include some who would like the military to allow them to designate “humanist” on their dog tags and official records. Just as a Catholic would wish to be specifically labeled and not bunched with other “Christians,” they argue, so too the “humanist” wants his “positive philosophy” to properly reflect what he believes."

Later he adds:

"Atheism posits that we are accidents of evolution, with no transcendent or lasting purpose. The universe just happens to exist and we just happen to be the unintended byproduct of a string of events which were set in motion randomly untold billions of years ago. We pass our brief moments in the sun, and in the end, we simply return to dust. The quality of the lives we lived, and our desire to continue thinking and growing and… being…count for nothing. There is no ultimate arbiter of right and wrong, neither punishment for evil deeds nor rewards for the good that was done."

Truly life's purpose is pretty bleak by their view.

Emotional abuser

Emotional abuser

What is the solution?

Repent and believe the Gospel. Mark 1:15. See Need God.

What is the Christian to do if he/she finds themselves doing this?

Repent.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. " (2 Corinthians 5:17, EMTV)

"But thanks be to God, that though you used to be slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from your heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been freed from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness. I speak in human terms on account of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to uncleanness, and to lawlessness resulting in more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness resulting in sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. So what fruit did you have then of which things you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been freed from sin, and having become enslaved to God, you have your fruit resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. " (Romans 6:17-22, EMTV)

This reminds me of a situation that D. L. Moody faced in his ministry. There was a woman who had a bad habit of lying. She came to Mr. Moody and asked his advice. He told her that every time she told a lie to go to the people that she had lied to and tell them that she had lied. She did this and shortly thereafter lost her habit.

I think that this would some advice to follow. Every time you abuse someone emotionally confess it and repent, that is, don’t do the emotional abuse anymore.

Some points

  1. Recognize that you abuse.

  2. Realize that you do not understand love.

  3. Confess that you enjoy causing pain.

  4. Realize that you are a coward. (I say this because most abuse occurs privately. Abuser fear that they may be arrested, fired, dealt with, etc. if they are caught publicly).

  5. Recognize that you are a bully.

  6. Realize that respect is earned and recognized by others. It cannot be demanded or commanded. Someone who demands it will be hated.

  7. Stop making excuses about your behavior.

  8. Confess that you have and are causing deep pain in others.

  9. Pray for empathy, because you have none.

  10. Pray for sympathy, because you don’t have that either.

  11. Confess your sin to God and ask forgiveness.

  12. Have a number of prayer partners. When you feel this addiction coming on stop right there call this person.

  13. Encourage those you have abused and do abuse to tell you when you are abusing. When they tell you, then stop. Remember that you are EVIL and need to quit.

  14. You will need a life time of help and assistance, because of your addiction.

  15. You also have a need to control. This is wrong. You are evil. You need to confess that you are evil (and not be proud of it).

  16. Take a walk and yell at a tree or something to get that controlling anger urge out.

E2 It is an attitude of abasing ourselves, that we do NOT have all the answers.

D6 Barnes comments: The Septuagint and the Latin Vulgate render this, "Thou turnest man to "humiliation;" which, though not the sense of the original, is a true idea, for there is nothing more humiliating than that a human body, once so beautiful, should turn back to dust; nothing more humbling than the grave.
