A Few Thoughts about Steps into Apostasy Part B

B5 Loss of creation

C1 Since the Bible interpretation method is changed, the interpretation of Genesis especially the first 9 chapters are also changed.

C2 Often times science becomes the highest wisdom and authority replacing God and His words.

C3 If we can’t believe what God inspires in the first 9 chapters, when do we start believing what He said? 1 John 5:10 CSB The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. The one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about his Son.

B6 Loss of doctrine

C1 Mainly loss of the idea that doctrine is important

C2 The teaching and beliefs in the church are determined by society and its changing times.

C3 Teachers that teach what we want to hear rather than what we need to hear. 2 Timothy 4:3 NLT For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

C4 Authority turns from Scripture to science, philosophy, experience, mysticism, “the silence” with its contemplative prayer, and personal ideas of truth.

C5 The solution is the Bible itself.

D1 False teachers will arise, so beware and avoid.

E1 2 Timothy 2:17-18 GNB Such teaching is like an open sore that eats away the flesh. Two men who have taught such things are Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 They have left the way of truth and are upsetting the faith of some believers by saying that our resurrection has already taken place.

E2 Jeremiah 14:14 NRSV And the LORD said to me: The prophets are prophesying lies in my name; I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds.

E3 Ezekiel 22:28 NLT And your prophets cover up for them by announcing false visions and making lying predictions. They say, 'My message is from the Sovereign LORD,' when the LORD hasn't spoken a single word to them.

D2 False priorities will replace God Himself. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 GNB Remember that there will be difficult times in the last days. 2 People will be selfish, greedy, boastful, and conceited; they will be insulting, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, and irreligious; 3 they will be unkind, merciless, slanderers, violent, and fierce; they will hate the good; 4 they will be treacherous, reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure rather than God; 5 they will hold to the outward form of our religion, but reject its real power. Keep away from such people.

D3 God warns us.

D4 God teaches all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be proficient, having been thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17 EMTV).

D5 To remain steadfast and true to the faith.

E1 Colossians 1:23 NKJV if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

E2 2 John 1:9 PickNT Anyone who turns aside and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; but whoever continues in Christ's teaching does have both the Father and the Son.

B7 Loss of what’s authoritative

C1 Seeking authority from leaders, mysticism, experiences, etc.

C2 Drifting from Bible reading and study for reading theological books and articles and listening to speakers.

C3 Solution

D1 Psalms 119:130 AFV The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

D2 Proverbs 6:22-23 GW When you walk around, they will lead you. When you lie down, they will watch over you. When you wake up, they will talk to you 23 because the command is a lamp, the teachings are a light, and the warnings from discipline are the path of life

B8 Loss of Christian witness

C1 The Gospel changes. It becomes corrupted by people adding something to doworks, rituals, joining a certain group, etc.

C2 People losing their conscience (become hardened and calloused) and guilt. People in general think they are good, and God will accept them to heaven as they are.

D1 Hardening of conscience

E1 Titus 1:15-16 NRSV To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure. Their very minds and consciences are corrupted. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their actions. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

E2 1 Timothy 4:2 NET influenced by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared.

D2 Self-deception Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

C3 Solution

D1 Knowing that the gospel never changes. Compare Genesis 15:6, Romans 4:3, Galatians 3:6, and James 2:23. See Revelation 14:6.

D2 Know and believe the Gospel.

D3 Know that God curses anyone who changes the gospel. Galatians 1:8 NIV But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!

D4 Realize that preaching the wrong gospel will have people believing an error and not be saved. Some wrong gospels are works and rituals are necessary, etc.

B9 Loss of Christian worldview

C1 Drifting into pantheism. See Romans 1:21-25.

C2 Losing Creator and creation for oneness of all things

C3 2 Timothy 3:4 GNB they will be treacherous, reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure rather than God.

B10 Loss of Christian lifestyle

C1 2 Peter 2:22 NLT They prove the truth of this proverb: "A dog returns to its vomit." And another says, "A washed pig returns to the mud.

C2 See the difference from Galatians 5:16-26.

B11 Loss of Christianity

C1 Drifting into atheism, pantheism, and other religions with different gods and different gospels. Compare Romans 1:25 GNB They exchange the truth about God for a lie; they worship and serve what God has created instead of the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever! Amen.

C2 Refusing to believe.

D1 Personally, I understand this passage to be saying “No” to God rather than there is no god. Psalms 14:1 NRSV To the leader. Of David. Fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is no one who does good.

D2 Matthew 23:37 WEL O Jerusalem, Jerusalem who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to you. How often I wanted to gather your children together even like a hen gathers her chicks under [her] wings, but you determinately would not.

D3 John 3:36 WEL “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life, but he who refuses to believe the Son will not see life, on the contrary the fierce anger of God remains on him.”

2 Peter 3:17-18 NIV Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Jude 1:24-25 NKJV Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present [you] faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, 25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, [Be] glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.

A Few Thoughts about Steps into Apostasy Part A

The steps into apostasy

B1 Loss of first love

B2 Loss of prayer and fellowship with God

B3 Loss of truth

B4 Loss of correct interpretation

B5 Loss of creation

B6 Loss of doctrine.

B7 Loss of what’s authority

B8 Loss of Christian witness

B9 Loss of Christian worldview

B10 Loss of Christian lifestyle

B11 Loss of Christianity

B1 Loss of first love

C1 Revelation 2:4 WEL Nevertheless, I have [something] against you, because you have forsaken your first love.

D1 Why love?

E1 Considering that love is a choice. It seems that they loved something or someone else supremely.

E2 Exodus 20:3 NLT You must not have any other god but me.

E3 Matthew 6:33 EMTV But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

E4 John 14:15 WEL If you love me, obey my commandments.

D2 The Ephesians, as well as all of us sometimes, started to desire other things, justify it somehow, and eventually fulfill their desire.

E1 1 John 2:16-17 NIV For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

E2 James 1:14-15 GW Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him. 15 Then desire becomes pregnant and gives birth to sin. When sin grows up, it gives birth to death.

D3 The solution

E1 To know the truth, believe the truth, and live the truth. John 8:32 NIV Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

E2 To rely on the grace of God. Jude 1:24-25 NKJV Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, 25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.

E3 The Lord. 2 Peter 2:9 EMTV then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and how to keep the unjust under punishment for the Day of Judgment,

E4 Praying to recognize the way out of temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 EMTV No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way out, so as for you to be able to bear it.

B2 Loss of prayer and fellowship with God

C1 Fellowship is something God enjoys. Fellowship with God, talking to God, enjoying God’s blessings, and serving God diminish. The loss comes from enjoying spending time with other things and having no time for fellowship with God.

D1 1 John 1:3 ESV that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

D2 Micah 6:8 NIV He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

C2 Prayer is talking with God. We don’t use trite phrases, memorized words, manipulation, etc. The loss is no time to talk to God.

D1 Consider this application: Revelation 3:20 NIV Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

D2 Proverbs 15:8 NRSV The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

D3 Matthew 6:7-8 GNB When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long. 8 Do not be like them. Your Father already knows what you need before you ask him.

B3 Loss of truth

C1 Replacing truth with a substitute of truth.

C2 2 Timothy 4:2-4 NLT Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths.

C3 God never changes. So, His truth never changes. Malachi 3:6 NLT I am the LORD, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.

C4 Loss or changing of THE standard.

D1 God’s character never changes. If it did, then we have the problem with God’s perfection. If there is a defect in God’s character, then He cannot be perfect/flawless in what He does and decrees. There would be a defect. BUT, God has no needs, no defects, nothing missing from His knowledge. So, His standards cannot change.

D2 We must ask, “What is His purpose for the Old Testament Laws?”

E1 The Mosaic Law is a covenant with an earthly nation and people. If they do His laws, He blesses. If they do not His laws, He curses. Deuteronomy 11:26-28 NRSV See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I am commanding you today; 28 and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn from the way that I am commanding you today, to follow other gods that you have not known.

E2 God’s purpose for the law, I believe, is to show that no one can obey His laws in thoughts or desires or words or deeds. All are condemned. God’s purpose did not lack anything.

E3 His purpose was completed in Jesus, who did obey God’s law in His thoughts and desires and words and deeds.

E4 Since God’s purpose was fulfilled, Jesus revealed the true way and true laws. Compare Galatians 3

C The solution might be

D1 Faith that since God does not change, His standards do not change either.

D2 Understanding the difference between the two worldviews taught in the Bible. They are the “flesh/world” worldview and the “spirit” worldview. Compare Galatians 5:16-26, 1 John 2:16, and Romans 8.

B4 Loss of correct Bible interpretation

C1 There are many methods of interpretation. Some examples are allegorical, symbolic, mystical, and spiritual.

C2 Losing Bible reading and study to reading mainly commentaries and articles.

C3 Many arguments for these other methods of interpretation are given, books written, and lectures orated to convince us to adopt a different method of interpretation.

C4 To me, it is most reasonable to interpret the Bible in its plain, normal sense. Since God is omniscient, omnisapient, and omnipotent, He certainly must be perfect in His communication. The plain, normal sense in His intended method of interpretation. If He wishes to communication symbolism, it is obvious.

1 Timothy 4:1-5

B1 Warning of Apostasy
C1 This is for the latter times
D1 End of the church age
D2 Just before the Tribulation. The Tribulation period itself is one of complete apostasy of government, religion, and society. Only God can save.
D3 Society falls apart
D4 Like the days of Noah and the times of Sodom and Gomorrah
E1 The sins of society are NOT any special sins.
E2 They are the breaking of God’s Commandments as summarized in the 10 Commandments.
E3 Every law is broken in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds.
E4 Truth changes from the correspondence theory (reality) to the Narcissistic theory (what I say is truth, is truth).
E5 Genesis 15:16 NRSV And they shall come back here in the fourth generation; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete."
F1 Punishment does happen. We don’t know when.
F2 God is very patient. He wants all to repent. 2 Peter 3:9 NIV The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
C2 Characteristics of those times
D1 Depart from the faith—leaving the Gospel and doctrine as taught by the Lord Jesus and the Apostles.
E1 Steps in apostasy
F1 Truth is the first thing to be changed.
F2 Then Bible interpretation becomes everything except the plain, normal sense.
F3 Then the Gospel is corrupted or neglected. Works or something else become necessary.
F4 Then the doctrine of God, the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are changed.
F5 Christianity departs from evidence and a reasonable faith to one of experience and mysticism.
E2 Becoming deceived
F1 The method: charisma, philosophy, empty deceit. Colossians 2:8 AMPC See to it that no one carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive by his so-called philosophy and intellectualism and vain deceit (idle fancies and plain nonsense), following human tradition (men's ideas of the material rather than the spiritual world), just crude notions following the rudimentary and elemental teachings of the universe and disregarding [the teachings of] Christ (the Messiah).
F2 Comes from spiritual ignorance: Matthew 22:29 NRSV Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God.
F3 True sets one free from deception. We must start with truth/reality. John 8:31-32 WEL Then Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, “If you continue in my teaching, you are truly my disciples, 32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
D2 Liars are rampant.
E1 These teachings come from liars whose consciences are seared. They just don’t care anymore about God’s truth in its plain, normal sense.
E2 The devil, hating God, uses lies for his teaching. God, loving truth, uses truth to teach the truth.
E3 Claim to be spokes-persons for God. Jeremiah 14:14-15 GNB But the LORD replied, "The prophets are telling lies in my name; I did not send them, nor did I give them any orders or speak one word to them. The visions they talk about have not come from me; their predictions are worthless things that they have imagined. 15 I, the LORD, tell you what I am going to do to those prophets whom I did not send but who speak in my name and say war and starvation will not strike this land—I will kill them in war and by starvation.
E4 Use the same words and terminology with different meanings/definitions.
D3 A seared conscience is one in which truth is suppressed and pushed aside.
E1 Romans 1:18 NIV The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
E2 Often we believe false teachers because we become deceived and sear our conscience as well.
F1 James 1:22 NIV Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
F2 Sometimes we think everything is wonderful, we are strong Christians, and we have arrived at spiritual maturity. But, in reality, we are in terrible shape. Revelation 3:17-18 GNB You say, 'I am rich and well off; I have all I need.' But you do not know how miserable and pitiful you are! You are poor, naked, and blind. 18 I advise you, then, to buy gold from me, pure gold, in order to be rich. Buy also white clothing to dress yourself and cover up your shameful nakedness. Buy also some ointment to put on your eyes, so that you may see.
E3 We need to live a life in truth/reality.
F1 Psalm 86:11 NKJV Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.
G1 God loves to teach.
G2 We must acknowledge our ignorance and need to be taught.
G3 Just being taught by God (reading and studying the Scriptures) is not enough. We must live it continually and in private and public.
G4 Walk is our daily life.
G5 Unite as in undivided motives, attitudes, thoughts, words, and deeds.
G6 Our heart is the core of our being. We are not to be hypocrites.
F2 1 John 1:6 ISV If we claim that we have fellowship with him but keep living in darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth.
F3 James 1:23-25 GW If someone listens to God's word but doesn't do what it says, he is like a person who looks at his face in a mirror, 24 studies his features, goes away, and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 However, the person who continues to study God's perfect teachings that make people free and who remains committed to them will be blessed. People like that don't merely listen and forget; they actually do what God's teachings say.
D4 Turning to seducing spirits and teachings of demons. Leaving truth.
E1 Lifestyle is determined by whatever a person decides.
E2 The plain, normal sense of Scripture becomes changed to one of “spiritual interpretation.” Doctrine and messages come from meeting God(?) in The Silence. The people are deceived to think it is Yahweh who gives these messages, but the messages come from the false. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 CSB For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
D5 Lies and hypocrisy
E1 What these false teachers say and do are not the same.
E2 They love to cover up and hide what they really believe and do.
E3 Many fake pastors hide various abuses and financial documents from the faithful.
D6 Conscience seared—people do all these evil things and do not feel any guilt.
D7 Forbid marriage.
D8 Teach the necessity to avoid certain foods.
E1 This refers to foods not related to health, but to progress spiritually. Some teach that Christians must follow the dietary laws outlined in the Old Testament. If someone wants to follow those laws, so be it, but if they teach it is spiritually necessarily for the Christian, it is false teaching. I am a Christian not a Jew. God bless the Jews.
E2 The truth is Christians can eat. The reason? God created these foods to be partaken with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. So, if a teacher teaches the necessity of not eating something for spiritual reasons, they are teaching lies. Beware! We have been warned.
E3 These foods are spoken by the Holy Spirit to be good and not to be refused. We are to be thankful for them, when we eat any food.
E4 These foods are sanctified.
F1 Because God said so.
F2 Because of prayer.
E5 We can also worship on Sunday or any other day: Colossians 2:16-17 WEL So then don't let anyone condemn you in food, drink, religious festivals, new moon, or the Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of things to come, but the real substance is Christ.

A Few Thoughts About the Last Days

A short note about signs indicating the return of the Lord Jesus.

I believe the Bible teaches imminency.
B1 A few articles that might help us understand the basics.
B2 There is not a long list of signs about Jesus’s return.

But, there are some things prophesied. Are they a sign? Sort of, but are they a sign that Jesus will come soon? These things might be happening, but they are not THE signs. To be a sign, it must be very significant, belantent, perhaps even worldwide. Apostasy is an example.

Some things we do know:
B1 The return of the nation of Israel
C1 Daniel 9:24-27 CSB Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city—to bring the rebellion to an end, to put a stop to sin, to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place. "Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until an Anointed One, the ruler, will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with a plaza and a moat, but in difficult times. "After those sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the coming ruler will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come with a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations are decreed. "He will make a firm covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and offering. And the abomination of desolation will be on a wing of the temple until the decreed destruction is poured out on the desolator.
C2 For a covenant to be made there must be a nation of Israel (your people). One article to study (PDF).
B2 Apostasy
C1 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 WEL Don’t let anyone deceive you by any method, because [it will not happen] unless the departure comes first and the man of sin, the son of perdition, is revealed. 4 He opposes and exalts himself above everything that is called god or what is worshiped, so that he, as if God, sits in God’s temple showing that he, himself, is god.
C2 The departure (translated variously as falling away, apostasy, great rebellion, etc.) must not be something ordinary to be a sign. It must be an apostasy never seen before.
C3 Some interpret the word departure to be the rapture.
C4 Perhaps a mysticism as we see overwhelming the church today: 1 Timothy 4:1 NLT Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
C5 The Greek word is ἀποστασία apostasía. It means falling away, defection, apostasy. It would be a departure from the teaching of Jesus Christ.
C6 It is used one other time in the New Testament: Acts 21:21 CSB But they have been informed about you—that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to abandon Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or to live according to our customs. [Emphasis is mine].
D1 Acts 21:21 speaks of a false claim about Paul’s teaching. They claim that Paul is teaching a departure from the teachings of Moses, the Torah.
D2 They claimed that Paul was teaching the believers to not follow the Torah and to disclaim Moses as an authority.
D3 To a religious, seriously minded Jew, this is heresy of all heresies.
C7 English definition of apostasy
D1 the abandonment or renunciation of a religious or political belief. (Oxford dictionaries via Bing).
D2 It helps to understand the antonym to help me understand. An antonym is loyalty.
C6 It seems reasonable, therefore, that the apostasy spoken of by Paul would be the heresy of all heresies concerning the Christian faith.
D1 The Gospel would be changed.
D2 Christian doctrine would be changed.
D3 Christian worldview and lifestyle would be changed.
D4 This is happening with greater frequency than any believer would want.
C8 Is it a sign? No one knows when this apostasy occurs. Nevertheless, we do seem to be in a time when the plain teachings of the Scripture are being ignored.
B3 Last days conditions
C1 2 Timothy 3:1-9 WEL Know this also, that in the last days perilous times will come.
2 For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, braggers, arrogant, users of abusive language, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, impossible to please, false accusers, unable to control themselves, fierce, despising those who are good,
4 Traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 Having an appearance of godliness but having spurned its power. From such turn away.
6 For this type are those who wheedle into houses and captivate gullible women loaded with sins carried away with various evil desires,
7 Ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also oppose the truth. Men with corrupt minds, rejected as worthless in regards to the faith,
9 But they will get no farther, because their foolishness will be clearly seen by all, just as theirs was.
D1 When these last days occur is not said, but the conditions listed in our passage must be extrodinary common and bold.
D2 These people are spoken of as having some sort of religious expression.
D3 They are deceivers who groom people to abuse and take advantage of them.
D4 Truth is no longer reality but personal opinion.
C2 Possibly, the sins of the Canaanites and those living before the flood can give us an idea of the types of sins that God hated so much that He judged them worthy of the death penalty.
D1 Noah’s days: Genesis 6:5-7 NLT The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. 6 So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. 7 And the LORD said, "I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.
D2 Thoughts, desires, words, and deeds would be exactly the opposite of God’s list.
E1 God’s ten commandments
F1 You shall have no other gods before Me.
F2 You shall make no idols.
F3 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
F4 Keep the Sabbath day holy.
F5 Honor your father and your mother.
F6 You shall not murder.
F7 You shall not commit adultery.
F8 You shall not steal.
F9 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
F10 You shall not covet.
E2 So in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds they do the opposite. The Canaanites did the opposite when obeying the commands of their gods. Deuteronomy 12:31 CSB You must not do the same to the LORD your God, because they practice every detestable act, which the LORD hates, for their gods. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. [Emphasis is mine]
E3 The opposite laws would then be:
F1 Any gods you want or can imagine.
F2 Any image you want or can invent.
F3 Blaspheming Jesus is good.
F4 No time for Jesus. Seel yourself and your own pleasure first.
F5 Do not honor your parents. They are old fashioned and not enlightened.
F6 Murder is the solution to a problem, so abortion, political killings, war, etc.
F7 Any kind of sex as long as you don’t hurt someone else.
F8 Steal if you need to.
F9 Lie to protect yourself and your friends.
F10 Covet and pursue it.
D3 Leviticus 18 speaks about the practices of the people living in the land presently.
E1 The passage:
Leviticus 18:1-30 NIV The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'I am the LORD your God. 3 You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. 4 You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the LORD your God. 5 Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD. 6 " 'No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD. 7 " 'Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her. 8 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your father's wife; that would dishonor your father. 9 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere. 10 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter; that would dishonor you. 11 " 'Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father's wife, born to your father; she is your sister. 12 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your father's sister; she is your father's close relative. 13 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your mother's sister, because she is your mother's close relative. 14 " 'Do not dishonor your father's brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt. 15 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife; do not have relations with her. 16 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your brother's wife; that would dishonor your brother. 17 " 'Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness. 18 " 'Do not take your wife's sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living. 19 " 'Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period. 20 " 'Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor's wife and defile yourself with her. 21 " 'Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. 22 " 'Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable. 23 " 'Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion. 24 " 'Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. 25 Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26 But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, 27 for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. 28 And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you. 29 " 'Everyone who does any of these detestable things--such persons must be cut off from their people. 30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the LORD your God. [Emphasis is mine]
E2 Some comments
F1 Sexual sins predominate
G1 The Israelites were not to have intercourse with mother, stepmother, stepsister, granddaughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, a woman AND her daughter, a woman AND her granddaughter, when a woman is unclean, neighbor’s wife, any male, any animal, etc.
G2 Sex is good and is to be pleasureable for husband and wife only.
F2 The Israelites were to never sacrifice children to any god (Molech is mentioned here). Note from the Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature 1895):
(Heb. Mo’lek, מֹלֶךְ, king, always with the art. הִמֹּלֶךְ, except in 1Ki 11:7; Sept. ἄρχων in Lev 18:21; Lev 20:2-4; Μελχών v.r. βασιλεύς in 1Ki 11:7; Μολὸχ ὁ βασιλεύς in Jer 32:35; and simply Μολόχ in 2Ki 23:10, as Aquila, Symmachus, and Theodotion everywhere render; Vulg. aMoloch), called also MOLOCH (Amo 5:25; Act 7:43), MILCOU (1Ki 1:5; 1Ki 1:33; 2Ki 23:13), MALCHAM (Zep 1:5), and MELCOMI (marg. Jer 49:1; Jer 49:3, text “their king”), is chiefly found in the Old Testament as the national god of the Ammonites, to whom children were sacrificed by fire.
F3 God ordered the people not to live by the rules, laws, and standards of the Canaanites or anyone else; they were to live by God’s rules.
F4 Punishment was to be vomited out of the land.
F5 A note from Believer's Bible Commentary by WILLIAM MACDONALD 1985 on this passage: Verses 1-23 tell the people what not to do; verses 24-30 tell them why not to do it. It is no accident that impurity and idolatry are found together in the same chapter (see also chap. 20). A person's morality is the fruit of his theology, his concept of God. The Canaanites were a graphic illustration of the degradation that idolatry produces (vv. 24-27).
B4 God’s promise to bring the Jews back to Israel
C1 The Jews coming back to Israel has never happened like it has the last 70+ years.
C2 It was prophesied:
D1 Jeremiah 16:15 NKJV but, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.' For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.
D2 Jeremiah 30:3 NKJV For behold, the days are coming,' says the LORD, 'that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,' says the LORD. 'And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

The are not exact signs, but perhaps the above are indications that the Jesus’s return is soon.

Like the Apostle John we pray, as all believers have for nearly 2,000 years: Revelation 22:20 NKJV He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

1 Timothy 4

Three Outlines Today

1 Timothy 4:1-5

B1 Warning of Apostasy
C1 This is for the latter times
D1 End of the church age
D2 Just before the Tribulation
D3 Society falls apart
D4 Like the days of Noah and the times of Sodom and Gomorrah
E1 The sins of society are NOT any special sins.
E2 They are the breaking of God’s Commandments as summarized in the 10 Commandments.
E3 Every law is broken in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds.
E4 Truth changes from the correspondence theory (reality) to the Narcissistic theory (what I say is truth, is truth).
C2 Characteristics of those times
D1 Depart from the faith—leaving the Gospel and doctrine as taught by the Lord Jesus and the Apostles.
E1 The main doctrine modified concerns the Gospel. Works or something else become necessarily.
E2 Then the doctrine of God, the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are changed.
E3 Christianity departs from evidence and a reasonable faith to one of experience and mysticism.
D2 Turning to seducing spirits and teachings of demons.
E1 Lifestyle is determined by whatever a person decides.
E2 Doctrine and messages come from meeting God(?) in the silence. The people are deceived to think it is Yahweh who gives these messages, but the messages come from the false. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 CSB - For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
D3 Lies and hypocrisy
E1 What these false teachers say and do are not the same.
E2 They love to cover up and hide.
E3 Many fake pastors hide various abuses and financial documents from the faithful.
D4 Conscience seared—people do all these things and do not feel any guilt.
D5 Forbid marriage.
D6 Teach the necessity to avoid certain foods.
E1 These are not foods related to health, but to spiritual progress. Some teach that Christians must follow the dietary laws outlined in the New Testament. If someone wants to follow them, so be it, but if they teach it is spiritually necessarily for the Christian, it is false teaching. I am a Christian not a Jew. God bless the Jews.
E2 The truth is Christians can eat. The reason? God created these foods to be partaken with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. So if a teacher teaches the necessity of not eating something for spiritual reasons, they are teaching lies.

1 Timothy 4:6-10

B2 Remind brethren
C1 These are for the pastors/leaders
C2 We are being good, that is, pleasing servants of the Lord Jesus.
D1 We remind our fellow believers of these things. Thusly, we must not do these things.
D2 We have to remind ourselves through Bible reading, Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
D3 We have to be open and listen when our fellow believers remind us.
C3 We have to be nourished in the faith. This is knowing the Gospel and Biblical doctrine.
C4 We have to follow them carefully. We do not follow them to be saved or to be better Christians than someone else. We do follow them because we want to be good servants of Jesus Christ.
C5 We are not to follow crude myths or old wives’ stories. These are not doctrine. They are religious myths and stories. None of them are something Christians need to believe. Some examples are
D1 An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
D2 Breaking a mirror will bring you seven years bad luck.
D3 Cleanliness is next to godliness.
C6 We need to be in training for living a godly life.
D1 We must know the Bible.
D2 We must know what we believe.
D3 We must know how to live a Christian life.
D4 We must be able to answer questions challenging our faith (apologetics).
C7 Physical exercise is OK but will not enhance our faith.
C8 We need to be ready for living tomorrow with God’s standards stronger in us then today.
C9 Believing that Jesus is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe is offensive to many people. The Gospel is offensive. Jesus is offensive. A Christian life is offensive to many. God’s standards are offensive to many.
B3 Applications
C1 Christians are different. Saving faith is different. Jesus is different. Jesus suffered, so will we.
C2 God gives us grace and strength for whatever we face.
C3 We need to be taught and to teach each other.
C4 We need to encourage each other in the faith.
C5 We need to pray for each other.

1 Timothy 4:11-14

B3 More pastoral advice.
C1 Paul is speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so all these words are not suggestions, they are required.
C2 Command and insist on these things
D1 This is not elder or pastoral abuse.
D2 A controlling pastor is either miseducated or more likely, evil.
D3 The word command has the idea of emphasizing the importance.
D4 The command is from the Holy Spirit.
D5 Teach has the idea of letting people know.
D6 Whatever we teach and emphasize MUST be followed by us. We cannot be someone who says but does not do. That is a hypocrite, and God will judge.
C3 All Christians need to be an example.
D1 Those who have been a Christian for many years better be an example.
D2 Those who have not been a Christian for many years can be an example to those who have.
D3 The idea is be an example.
D4 We are to be an example in our thoughts, desires, words, and deeds especially in love, attitude, faith, and purity. There are too many abusing pastors. They are not pure.
C4 Read, exhort, and teach.
D1 We are to do these things to ourselves.
D2 We are to encourage these things to others.

1 Timothy 4:15-16

B4 Be steadfast in your belief
C1 We need to think. We need to deeply think. We need to carefully.
C2 The things of God are most important to our life today and in the future life.
C3 We are to be dedicated to God’s ways.
C4 We need to grow in the faith.
C5 We need to be careful what we to and teach.
C6 We need to continue in the faith.
C7 We need to encourage all the brothers and sisters to continue, and they to encourage me.
B5 Applications
C1 There is a Christian life for our thoughts, desires, words, and deeds.
C2 We need to study, teach, and life the Christian faith.
C3 We need to actively think about God’s teachings.
C4 God will give us grace to do these things.
C5 Do not quit.
