A Few Thoughts about Rebirth

This refers to the new creation of a believer.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Galatians 6:15 NIV Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.

Salvation, reconciliation with God, forgiveness of sins, a hope and future in the Kingdom of God, etc. is only though grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.

Creation in the Bible is to have something out of nothing, a causing to exist what was not.

The old creation (if we can name it that)

B1 Material. This would include atoms and such. See Colossians 1:16-17.

B2 Good. God examined and judged creation to be good. See Genesis 1:31.

B3 Took 6 days then had 1 day of rest. See Exodus 20:11.

B4 The universe became contaminated by sin. If a world class painter completes a masterpiece. People are in awe of the quality of execution of the piece, design, composition, and technique. It is admired by all. Someone then comes and slices part of the canvas or spray paints a few spots on it. Even though it might be small, it is ruined. It is no longer perfect. One seemingly small sin (eating a piece of fruit) ruined God’s creation. Adam was warned. He knew and understood what God wanted. There was no need for Adam to eat that fruit willfully and deliberately. Adam did not believe God (that there would be punishment). Adam was not loyal to God (disobedience). Adam thought God would not know (foolishness). It had results—death.

C1 Physical—living things and become compost. Everything loses perfection as time advances.

C2 Spiritual—loss of fellowship with God. Humans became alienated and enemies of God. Romans 5:10.

C3 Soul—sin in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds. This is putting ourselves first. Though there may be altruism, the basic condition is me first. Original sin is not inheriting Adam’s sin and its penalty, but rather acquiring a sin nature. Adam and Eve were no longer perfect and sinless, which means they could not have a child who was perfect and sinless.

D1 James 3:16 NRSV For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.

D2 1 Corinthians 14:33 NRSV for God is a God not of disorder but of peace. (As in all the churches of the saints.

D3 Galatians 5:19-21 EMTV Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are: adultery, fornication, immorality, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envies, murders, drinking bouts, revelries, and the like; which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The punishment for sin is death.

B1 Adam died. Genesis 5:5 MKJV And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years. And he died.

B2 So all humans do. Hebrews 9:27 EMTV And just as it is appointed for men once to die, and after this judgment.

There is a need for and bestowing a New Creation

B1 That is God’s desire, and why He sent Yeshua, God the Son, to be the Savior. See: 31 Reasons Why Christ Came

B2 Reform is nice but not does pay the penalty for our sins. The entire being of every human is corrupt and unable to seek God. There is no hope, no future good, no peace. There is just the haunting sense of impending doom and fear of death. See Romans 3:10-18.

B3 God wants people to repent—all people. (John 3:16, 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 5:8, 1 Timothy 2:3-4, 1 Timothy 4:10, etc.)

B4 God initiates salvation by convicting them of their sin and opening their understanding. See Acts 16:14 and John 16:8.

B5 At that point, each individual has been enabled by God’s power to believe or not believe, to resist or not resist. Compare Acts 26:14, Acts 7:51, Titus 5:19.

B6 The new creation cannot be given by our efforts as for example keeping God’s laws. See Galatians 6:15.

B7 When someone believes, they receive forgiveness of sins, adoption by God, reconciliation, and a hope for the future. All this because of God’s love, mercy, and grace. He decrees that by freely believing one can receive all this. See Galatians 3:26-29.

B8 Everything is new in the heart (soul and spirit). See Romans 6:6-14.

B9 Eventually, we will have a new body as well. See Philippians 3:20-21, 1 Corinthians 15:44, and 1 Corinthians 15:51-57. Compare John 20:19.

B10 Eventually, we will have a new earth, heaven, environment, etc. See Isaiah 65:8, Isaiah 66:17, 2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21:4, and Luke 20:36.

B11 This is why we must live a new life. Ephesians 4:24-32 NLT Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.

26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,

27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.

29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Devotional Notes Romans 9

B1 What does this mean?
C1 Paul’s Desire For All Israel To Be Saved
D1 Paul’s desire for Israel to believe in Messiah is very deep. Compare Moses’ attitude: Exodus 32:32-33 NRSV But now, if you will only forgive their sin—but if not, blot me out of the book that you have written." 33 But the LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book.
D2 Paul lists many of the blessings of Israel.
D3 The greatest blessing is Messiah. Jesus (Yeshua) is the Messiah.
C2 God’s Plan To Choose Israel
D1 There is no automatic salvation just because a person is a Jews.
D2 A person is not saved by becoming a Jew.
D3 It is by faith, which is, believing God as Abraham did.
D4 If they believe, they are saved. If they refuse to believe, they are not [John 3:36]. It is the same for Gentiles. Heritage does not save.
D5 Verse 11, according to the context, the one who believes is saved, not heritage. God knew Jacob would believe and Esau would not. Esau and Jacob refer to nations not the individual.
E1 Two nations. God states to Rebekah that two nations are in her womb. God does not say two people. Personally, I don’t think of this passage as a promise. It is God stating a fact of what He (God) already knew. He knew Esau would be a rather worthless, selfish jerk. Genesis 25:23 NET and the LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples will be separated from within you. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.
E2 Note the attitude of Esau. He could care less about his birthright, the birthright of the first born. This is important because of the promises given to Abraham. Esau is a despiser. Genesis 25:31-32 GNB92 Jacob answered, “I will give it to you if you give me your rights as the first-born son.” 32 Esau said, “All right! I am about to die; what good will my rights do me?
E3 The blessings to Abraham
F1 Blessings associated with God’s call and Abraham believing what God said: Genesis 17:6-8 NRSV I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 8 And I will give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land where you are now an alien, all the land of Canaan, for a perpetual holding; and I will be their God.
F2 List: Genesis 12:1-3 NKJV Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
G1 I will make you a great nation.
G2 I will bless you.
G3 I will make your name great.
G4 I will make you a blessing.
G5 I will bless those who bless you.
G6 I will curse the one who curses you.
G7 I will bless all families on the earth because of you (if we believe, we are saved like Abraham was).
F3 which then passed to Isaac the son of promise. The birthright in that time usually was to get a double portion of the inheritance. Genesis 21:12 NKJV But God said to Abraham, “Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called.
F4 The birthright would have been Esau’s but he would rather have a bowl of stew. The attitude of Esau is hard to understand that he would act this way. Genesis 25:34 NKJV And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
G1 The Hebrew word for despised is בָּזָה bâzâh.
G2 It means despise, regard with contempt. So it is something disgusting, worthless, hated, sneering at, having no value, etc.
G3 Verses:
H1 1 Samuel 17:42 AMPC And when the Philistine looked around and saw David, he scorned and despised him, for he was but an adolescent, with a healthy reddish color and a fair face.
H2 Nehemiah 2:19 UKJV But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that all of you do? will all of you rebel against the king?
H3 Psalm 22:6 NIV But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
H4 No person ever has, is, or will live who is more despised than Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus Christ: Isaiah 53:3 NLT He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.
H5 Such was the attitude of Esau. God knew and thus rejected him.
F4 Isaac’s blessing to Jacob (whom he thought was Esau) is Genesis 27:27-29 NKJV And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said: “Surely, the smell of my son Is like the smell of a field Which the LORD has blessed. 28 Therefore may God give you Of the dew of heaven, Of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of grain and wine. 29 Let peoples serve you, And nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, And let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, And blessed be those who bless you!
F5 Note Isaac’s words to Esau concerning who would be master over the clan:
G1 Genesis 27:37 NET2 Isaac replied to Esau, “Look! I have made him lord over you. I have made all his relatives his servants and provided him with grain and new wine. What is left that I can do for you, my son?
G2 The blessing itself: Genesis 27:39-40 NET2 So his father Isaac said to him, “See here, your home will be by the richness of the earth, and by the dew of the sky above. 40 You will live by your sword but you will serve your brother. When you grow restless, you will tear off his yoke from your neck.”
H1 The above happened here: 2 Kings 8:20-22 NET2 During his reign Edom freed themselves from Judah’s control and set up their own king. 21 Joram crossed over to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites, who had surrounded him, attacked at night and defeated him and his chariot officers. The Israelite army retreated to their homeland. 22 So Edom has remained free from Judah’s control to this very day. At that same time Libnah also rebelled.
F6 Some differences between Esau and Jacob
G1 Similarities
H1 Me first
H2 Evil
G2 Differences
H1 Esau
I1 Outdoor man. What we might call a mountain man. He is a hunter.
I2 We can learn from his example of failure.
J1 Being impulsive is unwise.
J2 Instant gratification may be a disaster (he lost the birthright).
J3 Living for pleasure brings great losses (especially spiritual).
H2 Jacob
I1 Indoor man, that is a shepherd type rather than living in the wilderness.
I2 We can learn from his example of failure.
J1 Covetousness can be very dangerous and make powerful enemies. (Jacob did not have to demand the birthright from Esau. He simply could have helped his brother).
J2 Lying to receive great riches and power has long lasting and unforeseen problems.
D6 Verse 13, God did not hate Esau because of God’s choice. God hated the nation of Esau because Esau and his descendants hated God and Israel.
E1 Hebrews 12:16-17 NRSV See to it that no one becomes like Esau, an immoral and godless person, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17 You know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, even though he sought the blessing with tears.
E2 2 Chronicles 28:17 NRSV For the Edomites had again invaded and defeated Judah, and carried away captives.
E3 Joel 3:19 NRSV Egypt shall become a desolation and Edom a desolate wilderness, because of the violence done to the people of Judah, in whose land they have shed innocent blood.
E4 Amos 1:11 NIV This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Edom, even for four, I will not relent. Because he pursued his brother with a sword and slaughtered the women of the land, because his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked.
E5 Obadiah
E6 God hated the nation.
D7 Verse 15, God’s mercy is on those who believe. It is not given by some choice or someone’s heritage.
E1 The Gospel is always the same.
E2 Abraham is our example: Genesis 15:6 NKJV And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
F1 Perhaps, I am making something out of nothing, but I think believes in the Lord is preferred. Adam Clarke comments:
And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness—This I conceive to be one of the most important passages in the whole Old Testament. It properly contains and specifies that doctrine of justification by faith which engrosses so considerable a share of the epistles of St. Paul, and at the foundation of which is the atonement made by the Son of God: And he (Abram) believed האמן heemin, he put faith) in Jehovah, ויחשבה לו vaiyachshebeita lo, and he counted it—the faith he put in Jehovah, to Him for righteousness, צדקה tsedakah, or justification; though there was no act in the case but that of the mind and heart, no work of any kind. Hence the doctrine of justification by faith, without any merit of works; for in this case there could be none—no works of Abram which could merit the salvation of the whole human race. It was the promise of God which he credited, and in the blessedness of which he became a partaker through faith. See at Gen 15:19 (note); see also on Romans 4 (note). [Emphasis is mine].
F2 Habakkuk 2:4 ISV Notice their arrogance—they have no inward uprightness—but the righteous will live by their faith.
D8 Verse 17, we are not saved because of privilege. Pharaoh did not believe. Hardening is a punishment. Compare Romans 1:18-32 and Matthew 13:14-15. It is the same for all people as they refuse to give God credit for what things He has done and not being thankful. God healed Pharaoh and Egypt many times but both refused to be thankful and repent (Romans 1:21). Pharaoh just kept hardening his heart until he had crossed the line of hope. For a search of some articles from the plain, normal sense (Arminian) see here. Also, foreknowledge does not guarantee causality.
D9 God does not make His decisions on some secret will. He makes His decisions based on wisdom, love, and holiness. If one rejects God’s ways after God opens their heart, then that one will suffer the consequences of that decision.
D10 In Romans chapters 9-11 specifically, Paul is speaking to Jews who thought they were guaranteed heaven because they were Jews. God wanted them to know that if they refuse God’s gospel, then He will harden them. Abraham believed; most Jews did not. Adam Clarke writes on verse 22: What if God, willing to show his wrath - The apostle refers here to the case of Pharaoh and the Egyptians, and to which he applies Jeremiah’s parable of the potter, and, from them, to the then state of the Jews. Pharaoh and the Egyptians were vessels of wrath - persons deeply guilty before God; and by their obstinate refusal of his grace, and abuse of his goodness, they had fitted themselves for that destruction which the wrath, the vindictive justice of God, inflicted, after he had endured their obstinate rebellion with much long-suffering; which is a most absolute proof that the hardening of their hearts, and their ultimate punishment, were the consequences of their obstinate refusal of his grace and abuse of his goodness; as the history in Exodus sufficiently shows. As the Jews of the apostle’s time had sinned after the similitude of the Egyptians, hardening their hearts and abusing his goodness, after every display of his long-suffering kindness, being now fitted for destruction, they were ripe for punishment; and that power, which God was making known for their salvation, having been so long and so much abused and provoked, was now about to show itself in their destruction as a nation. But even in this case there is not a word of their final damnation; much less that either they or any others were, by a sovereign decree, reprobated from all eternity; and that their very sins, the proximate cause of their punishment, were the necessary effect of that decree which had from all eternity doomed them to endless torments. As such a doctrine could never come from God, so it never can be found in the words of his apostle.
D11 In verse 22, the objects of wrath are maturing for destruction. Vincent’s Words Studies on this passage:
Fitted (κατηρτισμένα)
Lit., adjusted. See on mending, Mat 4:21; perfect, see on Matthew 21:16; see on Luke 6:40; see on 1 Peter 5:10. Not fitted by God for destruction, but in an adjectival sense, ready, ripe for destruction, the participle denoting a present state previously formed, but giving no hint of how it has been formed. An agency of some kind must be assumed. That the objects of final wrath had themselves a hand in the matter may be seen from 1 Thessalonians 2:15, 1 Thessalonians 2:16. That the hand of God is also operative may be inferred from the whole drift of the chapter. “The apostle has probably chosen this form because the being ready certainly arises from a continual reciprocal action between human sin and the divine judgment of blindness and hardness. Every development of sin is a net-work of human offenses and divine judgments” (Lange).
D12 Verse 23: God has plans.
D13 Objects of mercy are those who complied with God’s conditions of His Gospel. Objects of mercy not receiving mercy because of privilege or heritage.
C3 Israel Did Not Believe
D1 Verse 30 makes it clear that righteousness is because of faith, not privilege or heritage.
E1 Philippians 3:9 GW and to have a relationship with him. This means that I didn't receive God's approval by obeying his laws. The opposite is true! I have God's approval through faith in Christ. This is the approval that comes from God and is based on faith.
E2 Galatians 2:15-16 GW We are Jewish by birth, not sinners from other nations. 16 Yet, we know that people don't receive God's approval because of their own efforts to live according to a set of standards, but only by believing in Jesus Christ. So we also believed in Jesus Christ in order to receive God's approval by faith in Christ and not because of our own efforts. People won't receive God's approval because of their own efforts to live according to a set of standards.
D2 Jesus is a stumbling stone because He taught one is saved by faith, by believing in God and His message. He taught one is NOT saved by keeping the Law.
C3 Summary:
D1 Salvation is not from:
E1 Privilege, position, socioeconomic status, etc.
E2 Heritage, relationships, etc.
E3 Works, that is, keeping God’s law perfectly in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds. Romans 3:28.
D2 Salvation is from:
E1 The Gospel, which is the teachings and life of Jesus Christ in His birth, ministry, death, resurrection, ascension, etc.
E2 Grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
E3 God’s mercy.
E4 It is evidenced by a more or less consistently changed life. James 2:18-20 NET But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith without works and I will show you faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; well and good. Even the demons believe that - and tremble with fear. 20 But would you like evidence, you empty fellow, that faith without works is useless?
E5 Hebrews 11:6 NIV And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
D3 We are taught there are two types of heritage
E1 Physical heritage with physical blessings.
F1 The blessings went from Abraham to Isaac to Jacob.
F2 There are physical deliverances but not necessarily spiritual.
F3 This is physical salvation as
G1 Galatians 3:12 NIV The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, "The person who does these things will live by them.
E2 Spiritual heritage with spiritual blessing.
F1 The blessings went from Abraham to all those who believe like Abraham believed.
F2 There are spiritual deliverances but not necessarily physical.
F3 This is spiritual salvation as grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
G1 Galatians 3:11 NIV Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because "the righteous will live by faith.
G2 Grace alone: Romans 3:24 NIV and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
G3 Faith alone:
H1 Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
H2 John 3:18 WEL The one who believes in him is not condemned, but the one who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
G4 Jesus Christ alone: Acts 4:12 NIV Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

Notes

The Superiority of Jesus
In everything, in every way, over every person, every angel, every creature. Superior in essence, life, wisdom, love, holiness, work, etc.

Jesus Is God Chapter 1:1-4
B1 The Son of God is heir of everything, everything.
B2 The Son of God is creator of everything. He did not create Himself.
B3 The Son of God is the exact substance (essence) of the Father and the Spirit. Essence is the stuff that God is. God is spirit.
B4 Those who saw Jesus in the flesh, saw God in the flesh.
B5 The creeds state: Jesus is one person with two natures. He is God as God is, and He is man as man is. See the Chalcedonian Creed. A shortened history with a few comments is here. You are encouraged to read the Athanasian Creed, too.
Superior To Angels Chapter 1:5-14

Jesus Provides the Only Salvation Chapter 2:1-4
B1 Since He is so great, the salvation that He has given us must not be disregarded.
B2 Dangers of disregarding it are all the punishments and effects of sin.
Jesus Is Fully Human and His Purpose Chapter 2:5-18
B1 Jesus
C1 Is one person, not two.
C2 Is one person, not some type of hybrid.
C3 Is a divine nature and is a human nature.
C4 Is a permanent state. As Schaff writes (Source): The union of the divine and human nature in Christ is a permanent state resulting from the incarnation, and is a real, supernatural, personal, and inseparable union—in distinction from an essential absorption or confusion, or from a mere moral union; or from a mystical union such as holds between the believer and Christ. The two natures constitute but one personal life, and yet remain distinct.
C5 Is one self-consciousness: As Schaff again writes: The self-consciousness of Christ is never divided; his person consists in such a union of the human and the divine natures, that the divine nature is the seat of self-consciousness, and pervades and animates the human.
C6 Is doing one ministry. This ministry is not just the God nature or the human nature. It is one ministry (caring, attending, serving). It was His purpose. He was successful. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
C6 Jesus’s human did not exist until the incarnation. His human nature is not an independent nature.
C7 Divine nature is His personality (character traits).
C8 Before incarnation was in the form (what we would see) of God, who in the incarnation took the form of a human man.

Jesus Is Superior to Moses Chapter 3:1-6
Jesus Warning About Unbelief Chapter 3:7-19
B1 First principle taught: Do not harden our hearts by unbelief: Hebrews 3:7-8 NRSV Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, as on the day of testing in the wilderness,
B2 Second principle taught: We are to encourage our brothers and sisters in the Christian life: Hebrews 3:13 NRSV But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
B3 Third principle taught: There is a relationship between obeying God and belief, and there is a relationship between disobeying God and unbelief. We cannot claim to be a believer and disobey His rules: Hebrews 3:18-19 NRSV And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

God’s Promised Rest Is Coming Chapter 4:1-13
Jesus Is The High Priest Chapter 4:14-Chapter 5:10

Warning To Not Fall From the Faith Chapter 5:11-14

Encouragement to Grow in Doctrine Chapter 6:1-12
B1 Do not deny Christ and abandon the faith (lose salvation): Hebrews 6:4-6 GNB For how can those who abandon their faith be brought back to repent again? They were once in God's light; they tasted heaven's gift and received their share of the Holy Spirit; 5 they knew from experience that God's word is good, and they had felt the powers of the coming age. 6 And then they abandoned their faith! It is impossible to bring them back to repent again, because they are again crucifying the Son of God and exposing him to public shame.
B2 Not all accept this interpretation.
B3 I have assurance, yet still believe it is possible, though incredibly rare, to deny faith. Think of Charles Templeton, Dan Barker, and Bart Ehrman.
B4 They had faith, enlightenment, heaven’s gift, partakers of the Holy Spirit, God’s goodness, and God’s power and blessing.
B5 They left the love of God to follow the love of the world: 2 Timothy 4:10 CSB because Demas has deserted me, since he loved this present world, and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. [Emphasis is added]
B6 Mediator of the New Covenant: Hebrews 9:15 NRSV For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, because a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant.
C1 The word loved is agape (ἀγαπάω agapáō).
C2 The word world is age (αἰών, aion)
God’s Promise Is Sure Chapter 6:13-20

The Great Priest Melchizedek Chapter 7:1-10
Jesus Is Greater Than Aaronic Priesthood Chapter 7:11-28

Chapter 8-9
B1 The Priestly Work of Jesus Chapter 8:1-6
B2 Jesus Is the Priest of The New Covenant Chapter 8:7-13
B3 The Earthly Tabernacle Chapter 9:1-10
B4 Jesus Is Priest of Heavenly Tabernacle Chapter 9:11-28
B5 As High Priest, He
C1 Sits at the right hand of the Father
C2 Ministers in the heavenly Temple in the Holy of Holies
C3 Is a priest because of a better covenant than the Mosaic Covenant.
C4 Offered His own blood, because the blood of animals is not sufficient: Hebrews 9:11-12 NRSV But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation), 12 he entered once for all into the Holy Place, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
C5 Purifies our conscious: Hebrews 9:14 NRSV how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!
B6 As humans we need to know
C1 All must die, then the judgment: Hebrews 9:27 GNB  Everyone must die once, and after that be judged by God.
C2 Jesus died only once for sins. There is only one sacrifice. It is finished. And, He will return to deliver us from this world: Hebrews 9:28 GNB In the same manner Christ also was offered in sacrifice once to take away the sins of many. He will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are waiting for him.

Faith Defined and Examples Chapter 11
B1 Faith is believing God. This is seen by obedience as explained above.
B2 We have examples to encourage us.

God’s Discipline Chapter 12:4-13
Warning To Not Falter Chapter 12:14-17

Isaiah 25:9 WEB It shall be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God! We have waited for him, and he will save us! This is Yahweh! We have waited for him. We will be glad and rejoice in his salvation!
Isaiah 61:10 WEB I will greatly rejoice in Yahweh! My soul will be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation. He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

1 Year Through the Bible Series—Romans Part D+15 Blessings given by the Holy Spirit

B5 Teaching about sanctification 6:1-8:39
C1 Freedom from sin
D1 In our sin nature, we are addicted to sin. It is the master, we are the slave.
D2 A result of salvation is that we died with the Lord Jesus. He died, and we died with Him. He rose, and we will rise with Him. Even now, we are risen into new life. Free from enslavement to sin. We still sin, because we still have the flesh, but in time that flesh will be dead, too.
D3 We are to live as freed people. We are freed from death, sin, and the world’s system (worldview and lifestyle).
D4 We are not to let sin, the sinful desires of the flesh, the worldview of the flesh, nor the lifestyle of the flesh to rule us. We are not to obey.
D5 God gives His grace to help us.
E1 James 1:12 WEL Blessed [is] the man who patiently endures temptation, for when he has passed the test, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love him.
E2 Hebrews 2:18 NIV Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
E3 Let us remember Ananias and Sapphira: Acts 5:3-4 ISV Peter asked, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart so that you should lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back some of the money you got for the land? 4 As long as it remained unsold, wasn't it your own? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? So how could you have conceived such a thing in your heart? You did not lie to men but to God!
E4 God’s grace has given us the Armor of God to help us (Ephesians 6:10-20).
D6 We fail many times, but we must resist.
D7 God teaches us, reminds us, and chastens us we are now free from sin.
D8 Romans 6:12-14 WEL Therefore, sin must not rule your mortal body by obeying its evil desires, 13 Neither give any part of your body as tools to sin, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and all of your body as righteous tools for God. 14 For sin must not rule over you, for you are not under the law but under grace.
C2 Freedom from sin illustrated
D1 Law, especially Mosaic law, only has authority over the living.
D2 Illustrated by marriage law.
E1 God’s ideal is once married, always married until death.
E2 There are reasons for divorce, but God’s perfect plan is no divorce.
E3 When a spouse dies, the law of marriage is dissolved, and the surviving spouse is free to marry.
E4 We have died with Messiah and are free from the law of sin (addiction to sin).
E5 Romans 7:6 NLT But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.
C3 Purpose of the Law
D1 To make clear what God’s law is and when we have broken the law. God’s law is THE standard. God is King of the Universe. The 10 Commandments are 10 categories/sets of God’s law. God’s law reveals our true sinful nature. Romans 7:7 NLT Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "You must not covet.
D2 The Law is the teacher and guardian until Christ. Now, Jesus is our teacher: Galatians 4:23-25 WEL But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut away from the faith, which would later be revealed. 24 So then the law was our schoolmaster until Christ, so that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
D3 Romans 7:8-11 teaches us that we thought we would be considered good, but God’s law shows us that we are evil.
D4 Romans 7:13-14. It is not the Law that is evil; it is us.
D5 To show the completely hopeless enslavement of the flesh to sin. Flesh refers to the worldview and lifestyle of sinful desires.
E1 The flesh of the physical body is a wonder of design.
E2 The desires of the flesh as hunger, thirst, rest, etc. is good, but it must be in its proper use. It is when we are outside God’s laws and purposes that we are in conflict with God’s laws.
E3 Sometime flesh refers to the flesh of the body, which is of amazing design and engineering
F1 Psalm 139:13-14 NLT You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
F2 John 1:14 PickNT So the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we observed His glory, glory of an Only-begotten, from the Father, full of grace and truth.
E4 At other time flesh refers to the “flesh” lifestyle, which is described as evil
F1 Romans 8:1 PickNT Now then, there is no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit,
F2 Galatians 5:17 NKJV For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
Another version: Galatians 5:17 NLT The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
C4 Two worldviews and lifestyles contrasted
D1 The one termed “flesh”
E1 Flesh in this sense is the opposite of “spirit” and fights “spirit.”
E2 First list of examples: Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious. They are adultery, sexual sins, moral corruption, unrestrained lust, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, provoking jealousy, hot anger, pushing to be first, selfish scheming, dissensions, heresy, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, wild partying, and so on, about which I have told you before, and as I have also told you in the past that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
E3 Second list: 1 Timothy 4:1-2 NIV The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
E4 Third: 1 John 2:16 NIV For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
D2 The one termed “spirit”
E1 This is the opposite of “flesh” and fights “flesh.”
E2 First list of examples: Galatians 5:22-23 WEL But, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
E3 Second list: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a Love is very patient and kind; love is not envious; love doesn’t brag about itself, is not haughty, 5 Doesn’t behave improperly, is not self-seeking; love isn’t easily aggravated, doesn’t keep a list of wrongs, 6 Doesn’t rejoice in injustice, but rejoices in the truth, 7 Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, calmly endures all things. 8 Love never ends,
C5 A list of blessings given by the Holy Spirit
D1 Freedom from the law of sin (being addicted to sin) and freedom from death: Romans 8:2 NIV because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
D2 Life and peace: Romans 8:6 NIV The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
D3 Our regenerated heart (new birth) is the temple of the Holy Spirit: Romans 8:9 NIV You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
D4 Life instead of death: Romans 8:10 NIV But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
D5 Promise of a coming resurrection to new body (like Jesus had after His resurrection): Romans 8:10 NIV But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
D6 Leads (this is not a mystical leading): Romans 8:10 NIV But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
D7 Does NOT make us slaves: Romans 8:10 NIV But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
D8 An assurance of salvation: Romans 8:16 NIV The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
D9 Heirs of God (joint heirs with the Lord Jesus): Romans 8:17 NIV Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
D10 Freedom from the bondage of decay: Romans 8:21 NIV that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
D11 Hope: Romans 8:24-25 NIV For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
D12 The Holy Spirit helping our weakness and helping us in prayer: Romans 8:26 NIV In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
D13 Everything working our for good: Romans 8:28 NIV And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
D14 God being for us, not against us: Romans 8:31 NIV What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
D15 Not separated from the Christ’s love: Romans 8:35 NIV Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
