The Five Basics
Many today teach that doctrine in not important. Many teach today that belief is not enough; one must have experiences as well to know God more deeply.
Doctrine is important.
- We need to know what is right and wrong, good and evil.
- We need to know what is correct doctrine.
- We need to know the correct gospel.
- We need to know the correct Jesus.
- We need to know the correct God, and what He is like.
God is defined as the highest being. One who is omnipotent, omniscience, omnipresent and many other characteristics. This is only a brief.

The Trinity
- Defined
- What it is not
- Three gods
- One being of three parts
- What it is
- One God (Yahweh) and three persons (who's)
- From Sandy Simpson's article on the 5 Basic Doctrines
- God ("What") created the universe: Genesis 1:1
- Father ("Who") created the universe: Malachi 2:10, Matthew 25:34
- Son ("Who") created the universe: Colossians 1:15-16, Hebrews 1:2, Matthew 13:35
- Spirit ("Who") created the universe: Psalm 104:30, Job 33:4, John 6:63
- One essence, that is, same stuff. Jerome used a bottle of wine and three glasses. One wine into three glasses and back into the bottle again, thus one essence. Hebrews 1:3, Galatians 3:20
- Some points
- There is only one God--Deuteronomy 4:35, Isaiah 45:5
- The doctrine is understood, not from just one verse but from the whole of Scripture as seen below.

The Person of Jesus Christ
- Essentials
- He is one eternal person
- His deity is the same as the Father and the Holy Spirit
- His humanity is the same as us
- Full unity of both natures: God and man
- He is not the Father.
- He is not the Holy Spirit.
- God
- He claims to be God (John 8:58, John 10:30-33, John 5:18)
- He does the acts of God (Luke 7:11-16, Matthew 15:30, John 6:10-14)
- Angels and people worship him (Matthew 14:33, John 20:28, Romans 9:5, Hebrews 1:6)
- Man
- Becomes hungry
- Becomes tired
- Becomes thirsty
- 100% God and 100% man
- This is not
- Body of human, soul of God
- Ghost of human, soul of God
- Not some jumbled mixture of God and human
- Not something new, a god-man.
- Not only an anointed man, that is, he was special and received the "Christ" spirit.

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
- He is coming for His bride, the church. This is called the Rapture. He will not be reigning on earth at this time. John 14:1-3, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:3, Titus 2:13, etc.
- At the end of the 7 year tribulation, He will return, defeat His enemies and anti-Christ, and set up His kingdom ruling the whole earth. Matthew 26:64, Luke 21:27, Zechariah 14:3, etc.
- He returns bodily, not just as a spirit or principle or mystery. John 14:1-3, Acts 1:11, Revelation 1:7, Philippians 3:21, etc.
Salvation
- We are saved from the wrath to come. We are saved from the punishment for our sins. We are saved to be reconciled with God.
- Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Grace alone, because we do not do any works to earn our salvation. Faith alone, because we believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ alone, because He is the one and only redeemer.
- We do no church ordained activities to merit our salvation.
- We do not get Jesus.
- We do not accept Jesus in our heart.
- We do not just repent and come to Jesus.
- We are not saved by raising our hand in a religious service.
- We are not saved by going forward to the preacher in some service.
- We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
- Some teach that a person who believes into Christ, only has a portion of the Holy Spirit or none of Him. These teach that it is necessary to lay hands on the convert to transfer the Spirit, which may or may not be seen in the speaking of gibberish.
- Some verses Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5-7, Romans 11:6, Romans 3:28, Romans 4:4-5, John 14:6, Acts 14:12, and
- The Romans road:
- Romans 3:10 EMTV Just as it is written: "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO NOT ONE
- Romans 3:23 EMTV for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
- Romans 5:8 EMTV But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 6:23 EMTV For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Romans 8:1 EMTV There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
- Romans 10:9 EMTV that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and you believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
- Romans 10:13 For "WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED."
Scripture
- The Bible alone is what is needed for all life and doctrine. 2 Timothy 3:15-16
- The Bible alone is 100% truth. Nothing else is 100% true. 2 Peter 1:19-21
- The Bible alone is inerrant.
- The Bible alone is the written words of God.
- We are not to add or subtract words. Rev. 22:18-19
- The whole Bible is inspired. The Bible does not contain the words of God, it is the words of God.
